Zik Zak's little guide to York

If you are visiting York, or a resident here, we would love to see you in our shop on Fossgate, where you can treat yourself or a friend to a personalized gift. We also
specialize in staffwear and are proud to be suppliers to many shops,
restaurants and tourist attractions in York. The following article incorporates a small
selection of the businesses we have supplied and which we totally recommend.

When you leave our shop if you turn left and wander down Fossgate you will find a little gem of a delicatessen and coffee shop on the right hand side called The Hairy Fig . If it’s lunch or dinner you are after and you like hot food try the latest addition to our street the Mumbai Lounge opposite our shop or Bombay Spice on Goodramgate. If Indian is too spicy for you there’s Ate ’Clock on Spurriergate, Lucia in Swinegate or 1331 where you'll find a friendly welcome. If it’s just a glass of wine or a coffee that you fancy then Wilde’s Wine Bar is
also on Grape Lane.

If you are looking for evening entertainment after dinner then check out what’s on at York Theatre Royal on St. Leonard’s Place or the Grand Opera House on Cumberland Street

There are lots of independent traders in York which makes it stand out from many other cities but we do have two large department stores which are family run businesses, namely Fenwick in the Coppergate Centre and Browns on Daveygate.

If you do happen to find yourself in the Coppergate Centre you may want to spend some time looking around the Jorvik Viking Centre. If it’s history you are interested in then you will find the Hungate Dig centre on St. Saviourgate. Still in need of a taste of the past? Then just outside the centre of town (just a few minutes walk) you will find the National Railway Museum on Leaman Road or you could check out Micklegate Bar Museum on Micklegate. Fancy a bit of a fright? - then pop into the York Dungeon on Clifford st.

By now you’re probably in need of a sit down so don’t forget that you don’t have to visit all the sights on foot. You can always take a ride down the river on one of the York Boats . based on Lendal Bridge or hop on one of the many open top busses run by York Pullman If, however, you are still feeling a bit energetic you can always hire a bicycle from York Cycle Hire.

Whenever you visit there’s always something special happening. In the summer time you can get lost in York Maze and even in the winter Tom organizes a great Halloween Night and Bonfire Spectacular. Winter also sees spooky nights arranged by York Ghost Festival. Whatever the season, there’s always something going on at York Wildlife Trust. If your visit incorporates a weekend you may want to check out if York Knights have got a match on.

On Sunday morning you might want to join in a
service at York City Church Monkgate or St. Michael le Belfrey Minster Yard or grab a coffee and have a chat at Elim Church at St. Laurence’s Primary School in Heslington Road.

There are numerous hotels and guest houses in York City and the Monkbar Hotel Monkgate is ideally situated for sight-seeing. The city is also a popular destination for celebrating a wedding,
anniversary or corporate event and the people at Papakata supply "Beautiful Tents for Amazing Events" and can help organize something extra special for you.

Hope you have found some useful information here and
look forward to seeing you in Fossgate, York in the near future.
